A law firm involved
in a large litigation is forced to comply with a discovery order.
There are potentially millions of pages of materials emanating
from paper files and e-mail archives. A service provider has
probably
performed a document and data processing protocol that allows
for an automated system (database controlled) to manage the review
process of identifying privileged and relevant documents.
Often,
these projects come to bear with little to no time to prepare.
The law
firms’ approach is often to argue to limit the extent of discovery
up until the last minute, even while the deadline continues to click away.
Therefore, the necessity to begin the review within a day or two is often
a reality.
Strategic
STAFF + SPACE supplies staff and space to many types of projects beyond
the realm of litigation including: antitrust; SEC and other civil
and criminal investigations; public and private audits; legal and non-legal
due-diligence projects.
In addition to providing
our clients with quality legal personnel for over 10 years, we
now have document review and war room suites available for large,
demanding projects. The space arrangements we provide for document
reviews is large enough and flexible enough in its configuration
to separately accommodate a war room setup, so case teams can
operate 24 hours a day in close
proximity to the courts.
The SLS management team is also continuously available to you
and will provide any level of service you require with regard
to managing an off-site project. Technology is handled by a seasoned
technologist capable of maintaining system integrity; interacting
with litigation support firms; performing data uploads; managing
transfers of data; and in many instances
training personnel in the use of today’s popular database software
used in document management.
Strategic Staff +
Space fully accommodates and supports all of your needs as you
perform
final preparations for “opening statements” and during
the entire duration of trial. Conveniently located close to the
courts, our full service suite will be your host – so that
you can concentrate on the important aspects of advocacy. When
you need additional staff as the workload peaks pre-trial, Strategic
provides experienced administration staff, JD’s, contract
attorneys and tech support. Below is a partial list of equipment
that is immediately available.
Once the client has
formally engaged the services of SLS, an "intake" meeting
will be scheduled immediately. In this meeting, the technology
requirements, software requirement, personnel requirements
will be identified
and a timetable will be established to ensure the management
and fulfillment of the clients expectations. Depending
on the available lead time, it is obvious that the most
difficult aspect of performance is the recruiting of solid
candidates.
Secondly,
setting up the "case" technologically is
next. Working with Counsel and/or the document processing
vendor, we will need to accomplish the following:
Verify
the quantity and working condition of the individual
work stations (computers, monitors, etc.);
Install and/or verify the working condition of the database
application to be used. This may also be an ASP;
Verify the
connectivity to the server that houses the discovery materials;
Verify an adequate internet bandwidth based on the number
of users;
Confirm that there is at least one extra work station
available in the event of a break down;
Assess and address
any additional requirements that may be required such as:
